The Middle Creek Mustangs scored a 24-21 win Friday night over Wake County 4-AA rival Garner to advance to the regional finals of the state football playoffs.
The win, before a crowd of about 4,000 at Mustang Stadium, marks the first time the football program (12-2 on the season) has made it to the fourth round of the state playoffs.
The win earns #2 seed Middle Creek the right to play #12 Wake Forest (11-3) at home. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 each when purchased at the gate, but students and fans are encourage to buy advance tickets for $7 each. Tickets will be sold to students during lunch Wednesday and to the general public from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in The Commons.
No admission passes are allowed. The winner advances to the state championship game and plays the winner of Friday’s Butler vs. Mallard Creek matchup. Both are Charlotte area teams.
Volunteers are still needed to assist with concessions Friday as another large crowd is expected. Sign up online to help.

A record crowd is expected Friday at Mustang Stadium as Garner travels to Middle Creek for the third round of the 4-AA state playoffs. The 7:30 p.m. game is a rematch between the two teams, which faced off in the first game of the season in Garner.
HighSchoolOT will be at Middle Creek Friday at 3:30 p.m. to record the weekly Round Table web show during tailgating. Fans are invited to come out for what is the equivalent of ESPN’s GameDay.
Because of the anticipated large crowd, game tickets will be sold in The Commons from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday to reduce the lines at the ticket window. Tickets cost $7.
Because this is a state playoff game, NO PASSES MAY BE USED FOR ENTRY.
The big game is a big opportunity for the Stampede Club, and volunteers are needed. Please consider helping for all or part of the game. Sign up here.
Good luck Mustangs!
