  • The Varsity Cheer squad for earning 2nd place honors in the 4A Division of the NCCCA State Championship
  • The JV Cheer squad for earning 1st place honors in the Small JV Division – their first title this year!

Stampede Club salutes

  • Madeline Martin – Tri-9 Conference Diving Champion
  • Members of the Indoor Track Team who will be competing at the state championship this Saturday, February 11th in Chapel Hill.  Middle Creek has athletes qualified in seven different events (the largest group ever from our school).  The qualifiers are:

Girls:

Sarah Woynicz (4×800 meter relay)
Kimberlie Buchholz (4×800 meter relay)
Valerie Buchholz (4×800 meter relay)
Nicole Brugnoli (4×800 meter relay and 1000 meter run)
Emilee Hensel (3200 meter run)

Boys:

Jamal Avery (4×800 meter relay, 1000 meter run)
Chilton Birdwhistell (4×800 meter relay, 1600 meter run, and 3200 meter run)
Keith Hair (4×800 meter relay)
Hunter Toms (4×800 meter relay)

And in addition to qualifying for the state championship these athletes also set school records:

Jamal Avery in the 1000 meter run
Emilee Hensel in the 3200 meter run
Nicole Brugnoli in the 1000 meter run
And the girls 4×800 meter relay team of Sarah Woynicz, Kimberlie Buchholz,
Valerie Buchholz, and Nicole Brugnoli.

A few good volunteers

The Stampede Club Scholarship Committee needs a few more volunteers. This is a one-night commitment on Tuesday, May 8, at 6 p.m. for a maximum of four hours to evaluate applications of senior athletes. Parents of seniors are not permitted. If interested please contact committee chair, Nan Salmon, via email.

Rashawn King named national runner-up for Inspireum Football Awards

The High School Football Rudy Awards celebrate outstanding young athletes, not because of their statistical performance, but because of their ability to inspire teammates, classmates, families and communities. (taken from the Rudy Awards website).  Congratulations to our own inspirational Mustang Rashawn King for being one of the twelve finalists!  You can view the long version video entry on YouTube and then be sure to vote for him.  Fan voting is a component of the selection process so be sure to vote and encourage others to also (voting period is open until January 12, 2012).
